Larissa
Hello! Larissa here, and I’ve come a long way from the sweet corn picking, little Nebraska girl I once was. I moved to Chicago for college in 2008 and the whole bright lights, big city thing completely sucked me in. I’m currently hustling my way through my seventh year of teaching, rolling with the punches and enjoying the ride!
Other interests of mine? Travel, family, friends, fitness, photography. I’m utterly fascinated with how cameras allow people to capture moments, share their interpretation of the world and forever remember incredible experiences. I’m not a big fan of monotony, which is why teaching and traveling are right up my alley. I’ve learned heaps of meaningful lessons attempting to navigate my way through the unpredictability of both worlds.
The Teacher
Let’s face it. Teaching is HARD! If you don’t believe me, spend one day in a classroom and you’ll surely change your mind. My fellow educators can attest to the fact that our days (and nights) usually entail prepping lessons, making copies, teaching, managing behavior, grading work, analyzing data, decorating, communicating with parents and administrators… I’ll stop there!
My job is neither above nor below anyone else’s, but shaping the hearts and minds of little ones is an immense responsibility. What teaching lacks in elegance, it makes up for in gratification. I by no means have this whole teaching thing figured out, but I truly love what I do. I’m so excited to share how I get creative in the classroom as well as my passion for integrating travel and culture into education!
The Traveler
I’ll go ahead and say it. I LOVE having summers off! Holiday breaks aren’t too shabby either. While I work my booty off all school year, I’m secretly dreaming about the escapades I’ll encounter come vacation time. I’m completely infatuated with experiencing other cultures and expanding the way I view the world. I’ve discovered so much about myself by saying, “Adios comfort zone!”
My experiences have taught me LOTS of globe-trotting do’s and don’ts. So my goal is to provide you with some useful travel tips, advice on various destinations and insight on how to travel with a less than ideal budget. Here’s to adventuring our way through this thing called life! Cheers 🙂
